We recently helped with a private eviction in the North East where two cats were left abandoned in a property.
Our Animal Control Officer onsite automatically made friends with these two friendly felines and managed to get them into the cat carriers so we could start the process of finding somewhere for them to stay.
We managed to find a local cattery who were able to take both cats for us for the 28 day period (this is the time period where the owner is able to collect their animals if they wish).
As per our duty of care for the cats, we ensured that we took them straight to the vets to have a health check and to get them vaccinated before they made their way to the cattery. Luckily both cats were in a great condition and just needed a snuggly warm place to stay.
The cattery were excellent and not only looked after the cats, but fell in love with them, and even had the opportunity to give them new names instead of being known as Cat One and Cat Two.
Unfortunately, the owner did not come forward to collect their cats, so after the 28 day period, the cats belonged to the Private Eviction Company. We spent a long time trying to find a suitable home for the two cats, but we did not give up. Many rehoming centres are fully stretched at the moment, but luckily for these two kitty’s we found a lovely rehoming centre for them both to go to.
It is always sad, when we find any abandoned animal, but it is always a happy scenario, once a new, safe home has been found for them.
